STEPS Outreach Support

Assessments

We offer assessments in schools and may provide personalised programmes for the development of skills in reading, writing and maths following individual assessment.

Personalised programmes

Children may receive a personalised phonics programme, or if appropriate, they may be set targets to support them through a whole word reading approach (Word Up), or with the development of their maths skills.

STEPS programmes are delivered by trained school staff who are offered termly updates and on-going support from the STEPS outreach team.

Outreach Support

Our outreach team also provides advice, guidance and training for staff working with children with complex needs. This includes support for children with Down Syndrome.

This includes ideas for resources to support pupils and modelling of learning and teaching strategies to individuals and small groups.

We also attend and contribute to Annual Reviews and multi-disciplinary meetings in schools.

Training

We offer training and workshops to staff in schools on how to support pupils with SEND in mainstream settings.

The courses available include training on delivery of our tailored programmes, supporting pupils with Down Syndrome, adapting teaching strategies and resources to respond to pupils with SEND in mainstream settings, assessment of children with complex needs etc.

School staff can find a list of training and book courses via this link: https://servicestoschools.royalgreenwich.gov.uk/courses

Parent support

On request, we deliver parent coffee mornings in schools, discussing topics such as how to support with homework etc.

Assistive Technology

We support and advise schools in implementing assistive technology tools that can support reading, writing and spelling, to enable children to successfully access the curriculum.

We offer training and support to school staff in using tools such as Clicker, Communicate in Print, Microsoft Learning Tools and more.
