Parent Carer Needs Assessments

For those caring for a child or young person with SEND aged 0-17

Are you a carer?

Many people don’t see themselves as carers. You might see the emotional and practical support that you provide as part of being a parent. No matter how you see yourself, you are a carer if you provide or arrange care for someone who struggles to cope without your support, for more than 35 hours per week. If you are a carer, you could be entitled to help and support that makes your life easier.

Did you know that the law says that upon request, Local Authorities have a duty to carry out carers assessments if ‘it appears to the authority that the parent carer may have needs for support’
