Language support for deaf and hearing-impaired people

British Sign Language (BSL) and other interpreting services that can help deaf and hearing people communicate within the workplace or education. ​They promote accessibility for all deaf and hearing-impaired people, and aim to create environments where everyone can participate and engage fully. 

Language support options include: 
  • Communication Support Workers who help deaf people access educational opportunities by communicating with professionals like teachers, lecturers 
  • Lipspeakers who are trained to repeat a speaker’s message to a deaf person who relies on lipreading 
  • British Sign Language (BSL) interpreters 
  • Electronic notetakers who are comfortable reading English at high speed, producing a real-time summary of what is said using an ordinary laptop computer. 
  • Communication support at job interviews. They can act as a notetaker, lipspeaker or BSL interpreter
