Free cycle hire for anyone with a disability or additional need. We lend, at no cost (i.e. for free), tandems and tag-alongs to (and only to) people with disabilities or additional needs, who are unable to ride a bike safely on their own, so that they can enjoy the wonders of cycling. We have about a hundred tandems and about a dozen tag-alongs all over the UK. They are with borrowers for the majority of the time but are looked after by the volunteer helpers. Our aim is to turn unloved and unused spaces in Charlton into productive community use. The garden at Charlton Station is our first garden and was started in April 2013. It is being developed as an organic, demonstration garden to show that food can be grown in small spaces as well as provide habitats for wildlife. C.A.N.E. is a small friendly community centre using 2 rooms in New Eltham Library. We have a range of regular weekly activities and also events at the weekend that are either monthly or "one offs". There is a charge for all activities which goes towards keeping us running as we receive no outside funding, we aim to keep this as low as possible.
