CARE Partnership

Promoting equality, diversity and inclusion

Established in 1992, the Charlton Athletic Race and Equality Partnership (CARE) uses sports and arts to build links within communities. It creates fun and informal platforms for interaction and communication between groups and individuals who might not otherwise have normally associated with each other - helping to build positive relationships and a sense of community.

The project is now managed by Charlton Athletic Community Trust. It is directed by an advisory group, which is jointly chaired by the Royal Borough and Charlton Athletic Football Club.

The partnership works with a range of partners, groups, and organisations from across the voluntary, community, public and private sectors including:

  • Community groups
  • Voluntary sector organisations
  • Public sector agencies
  • Women-only groups
  • Disability groups
  • NEET groups - young people not in education, employment or training
  • Black and minority ethnic communities
  • Older people
  • Faith groups
  • Primary and secondary schools
  • Colleges
  • Universities
  • Groups with low participation rates in sport and physical activity.
